Cranberries

Cranberries have been known as a treatment for kidney, bladder and urinary tract infections for many years.

1 serving size of 225 milligrams of cranberry juice contains:
Calories:    150
Carbohydrate:    40 grams
Potassium:    60 milligrams
Vitamin C:    110%

Cranberries have health benefits as they:
– prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs and cystitis)
– prevent kidney stones
– reduces nappy rash
– kills bacteria and viruses

Cranberries increase the amount of ‘hippuric’ acid in the urine, and this is known to kill bacteria, leading to fewer occurrences of urinary tract infections.  Simply drinking 1 to 2 cups of cranberry juice may help the prevention of urinary tract and bladder infections.

Cranberries have also been known to be a great treatment for nappy rash as cranberry juice in the urine helps to lower pH levels.  Urine with a high pH level is alkaline, leading to skin irritations and nappy rash.  The juice of cranberries given to infants helps to reduce the incidence of nappy rash.

Cranberries make an excellent kidney and bladder tonic and is a wonderful preventative measure against UTIs and bladder infections.
